Each year, a farmer won prizes for his superior quality grains in a State Fair.
A Reporter asked him about how he grew it. The farmer told him that he shared his seed with his neighbours.
How can you afford to share your best seed with your competing neighbours? the reporter asked.
Why sir, said the farmer, didn’t you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening grain and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbours grow inferior, sub-standard and poor quality seed, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. To grow good corn, I must help my neighbours grow good corn!
That is a deep insight into the connectedness of life. Our grain cannot improve unless our neighbour’s grain also improves.
To be at harmony we must help neighbours to be at peace, to live well, must help others to live well. The value of a life is measured by the lives it touches.
If you wish to be happy, you must help others in finding happiness.
